Please read these guidelines carefully, as we will take appropriate action if any of them are violated to ensure a positive experience for all members.

Please be respectful of others and their perspectives, understanding that everyone is on their own unique learning journey.
Support and Encourage at Every Skill Level
We’re all part of this learning community together. Learning a language can be challenging and requires bravery and perseverance. If someone makes a grammatical mistake or asks a question you believe is simple, please respond with kindness and patience. Negative remarks or unkindness don’t contribute to anyone’s growth. If you can’t offer help in a respectful way, it’s best not to comment at all.

Languages are rich with diverse words, accents, and expressions that all convey similar meanings. We see this diversity as one of the most fascinating aspects of language. When discussing regional differences, approach these conversations with an open mind and a respectful attitude, appreciating the unique ways people communicate across different cultures.

While communicating in another language is a social activity, please be cautious about sharing personal information that could be misused. Avoid posting details such as your phone number, age, address, daily schedule, school name, email, or any other private information that could compromise your privacy. In short, don’t overshare. Sharing personal data or encouraging others to do so can lead to content removal and potential account suspension.

Harassing or harming others with words or actions
Duolingo is a safe and inclusive space for learners from all backgrounds. Any form of harassment or harmful content will not be tolerated. This includes using symbols, names, or text that promote hate, as well as engaging in harassment, stalking, impersonation, or making sexual remarks toward others. Inappropriate images, nudity, and disturbing profile pictures or usernames are also considered abuse. As outlined in our terms, Duolingo reserves the right to remove such content or suspend accounts at its sole discretion. A good rule of thumb is: if your actions or words make someone feel attacked or hurt, then they shouldn’t be done. We take reports of this activity seriously and may delete accounts without prior warning if such behavior is confirmed by our team.
Engaging in scripting or malicious cheating
Duolingo promotes fair and honest learning. If you create scripts or share information with the intent to cheat or manipulate the platform in a way that could negatively affect the system, community, data, or overall learning experience, your account and related posts may be subject to removal.
Posting inflammatory comments
Hateful, obscene, or off-topic comments do not foster a productive learning environment. Swearing or offensive language also detracts from the discussion—let learners encounter those words naturally rather than through platform conversations. Please keep language discussions respectful and focused.
Prohibited Content:
Illegal activities, pornographic material, excessively offensive or violent content, spam, threats, harassment, or bullying, racist or intolerant material, impersonation or deceptive representations of others, and sharing personal confidential information.
